Although it will include information about some canonical authors (e.g. Hawthorne, Poe, Irving, Melville, James), the main focus is authors of different identities who have not traditionally been included in the canon.

Emma Lewis ’20 is a History major and member of the DSSF 2017 cohort. Last year, she created a choose-your-own-adventure audio tour, Stories in the Streets. This year, she is working with a collection of oral histories about the college in the early twentieth century to create video interpretations. She is also continuing work on collecting data for Gettysburg College’s Named Spaces project.

Ivana Lopez Espinosa ’19 is a rising senior majoring in Sociology with a minor in Music from the Sunderman Conservatory of Music. During her time at Gettysburg, she has been the student worker at the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, where her interest in her project began. Ivana plans on completing a public history project focusing on the diversification of Gettysburg College from the establishment to the present. She plans on creating a multi-page website with embedded timelines, images, and sound of the college’s history.

Gauri Mangala ’21 is researching the phenomenon of performance as means of storytelling in the town of Gettysburg in response to Lincoln’s address.

Augusta Pendergast ’19 is a Philosophy major at Gettysburg College. Her project this summer focuses on analyzing student works over the last century through the lens of the modern and postmodern eras. Through gaining a better understanding of Gettysburg College culture in these eras, she will then be able to look at contemporary student works to discover how our present day fits into these broad narratives.

Digital Scholarship Committee

Clint Baugess is a Research & Instruction Librarian at Musselman Library and coordinates the library’s information literacy instruction program.
